Post-exam and STEAM week: AI hackathon

Teams of four or five pick a school or community problem, build a prototype with AI tools in half a day or a full day, and present it to judges and classmates. The format comes from the Connect Co-Creation Hackathon we ran.

  • Half day About 3 hours, for one year group or mixed forms.
  • Full day About 6 hours, covering ideas, building, testing and pitching.

  • Use AI tools to turn an idea into something they can demo
  • Split work, test and improve under time pressure
  • Present clearly to a panel of judges

Sample full-day schedule

  • Session 1Opening and teams; the brief and judging criteria.
  • Session 2Design thinking: interview classmates or teachers, define the problem and user.
  • Session 3Build the prototype with AI tools, with mentors on hand.
  • Session 4Test and improve: teams try each other’s prototypes and give feedback.
  • Session 5Pitches, judging and prizes.

A hackathon puts AI to work on a real problem. It supports EDB’s “AI + curriculum” direction and cross-curricular STEAM learning, building problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking.

Frequently asked questions

Who provides the prizes?

The school can arrange its own, or we can include them in the quotation.

Can it run across year groups or schools?

Yes. Tell us the number of students and the venue in your quotation request and we will staff it accordingly.

Have you run one before?

Yes. On 14 and 21 February 2026 we ran the Connect Co-Creation Hackathon at Dream Impact with 53 participants; the winning team received HK$3,000.
